How to fix the printer cartridge not recognised error

Posted by Martin on

Dealing with a printer cartridge not recognized error can be frustrating, but fear not! There are a few simple steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue. Below are some tips to help you get your printer up and running smoothly again.

Check the Cartridge

First things first, make sure the cartridge is properly installed. Remove the cartridge and reinsert it, ensuring it is securely in place. Sometimes a loose connection can cause the error message to appear.

Clean the Contacts

Over time, the metal contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer can accumulate dust or ink residue, leading to poor connectivity. Gently clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth or cotton swab and a bit of rubbing alcohol to ensure a clean connection.

I hate Printing!

Now that we have your attention, please do NOT update the firmware on your machine. This will simply negate the use of any compatible product, forcing you to use the OEM inks (all the whilst, re-mortgaging your house to buy them). Please follow these steps to ensure a smooth process.

Rest the Printer (I know, sounds basic)

If the error persists, try resetting the printer. Turn off the printer, unplug it from the power source, and wait a few minutes before plugging it back in and turning it on. This can sometimes clear out any temporary glitches causing the error.

Try a different cartridge

If you have access to another cartridge of the same type, try inserting it into the printer to see if the issue lies with the cartridge itself. If the new cartridge is recognized without any errors, the original cartridge may be faulty and in need of replacement.
